iPad 2 vs. iPad 1

March 7th, 2011    Posted in Apple News, Industry News, ipod software

Now iPad 2 has released on March 2. Maybe you are wondering what you would get if you trade in my old iPad for the iPad 2. Now I will show you what the difference between the iPad 1 and iPad 2.

First, let’s see a bunch of things that essentially haven’t changed at all between iPad 1 and iPad 2. The display is exactly the same as before, as is the resolution: 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. The next thing that’s exactly the same is the storage options, 16, 32, and 64GB being your options. Your Wi-Fi will still be 802.11 a/b/g/n, your Bluetooth will still be 2.1 + EDR, accelerometer stays the same at 3-axis. The iPad 2 has 10 hour Battery life, which is the same as iPad 1. Also the cost for iPad 2 is the same as iPad 1. Better product for the same amount of money.

Moreover, the new iPad 2 brings us many exciting new features. The iPad 1 was released only with the black version. And you’ll be able to get your iPad 2 in both black and white. And the iPad 2 processor has been improved from a 1GHz Apple A4 to a 1GHz dual-core Apple A5.

The iPad 2 is much lighter and thinner than iPad 1. Your iPad 1 was either 680g or 730g depending on if you wanted 3G or not. The heaviest new iPad is 613g, and that’s the AT&T model. Next lightest is 607g with Verizon, and 601g with just Wi-Fi. Also the thickness of the entire unit has been reduced 33% from 13.4mm down to 8.8mm.

The iPad 2 features a gyroscope where iPad 1 did not include one. Also the iPad 2 owns two cameras – one on the front and one on the back. We do not know about the capabilities of these cameras quite yet, but the front camera is a VGA webcam and the back is capable of recording video at 720p. Users can have a FaceTime video calling with friends.

iPad 2 runs the latest iOS 4.3, which is added with some new items tol make your experience on this new tablet a completely re-vamped one.

Apple introduces a new cover system that works with magnets and automatically turns off and on the device when its screen is blocked.

Together with iPad 2, Apple introduced the HDMI adapter for the iPad 2. It allows you to pump full 1080p images to your TV. Although this HDMI adapter is also compatible with the iPad 1, only the iPad 2 supports 1080p mirroring for apps. The iPad 1 will only support 720p mirroring.

iPad 2 vs. iPad 1

To tell the truth, there are not so many great improvements brought by iPad 2. However, the iPad 2, equipped with the dual-core A5, can bring users with more outstanding experience while surfing, watching videos, playing games, etc.

Apple iPad 2 vs. Motorola Xoom

March 4th, 2011    Posted in Apple News, Industry News

On Tuesday, Steve Jobs has introduced the new iPad 2, which brings users some new features. Undoubtedly, the tablet industry will be highly competitive. Motorola has released the Xoom running Android Honeycomb. Which is better – the iPad 2 or the Xoom? Now I will compare the Apple iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom in details.

iPad 2 vs. Xoom

The iPad 2 features a 1GHz dual-core A5 processor, and the Xoom has a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. All processors can meet regular needs. Though we have no idea of the iPad 2’s RAM, rumors shows that the RAM of iPad 2 is 512MB, which is only half of the Xoom’s 1GB RAM.

Apple provides users with three actual storages of iPad 2 – 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Xoom only get a 32GB of storage capacity. There is a MicroSD card slot on the device, which could support memory cards up to 32GB.

Though people believed that iPad 2 would feature an iPhone 4-style Retina display. With the arrival of iPad 2, we are disappointed that the iPad 2 features the same LED backlit 9.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768.

The Xoom has a 10.1-inche screen with 1280 x 800 pixels. Also the Xoom’s 16: 9 aspect ratio is better for watching HD-widescreen content.

Both the iPad 2 and Xoom feature two cameras –one on the front and one on the back. Apple did not give us the specifics of its cameras, from which we can figure out that the cameras are not so powerful. The only thing we could know is that the iPad 2 rear camera can record 720p video.

While, Motorola Xoom has a competitive 2-megapixel front camera, a solid 5-megapixel rear camera, and a dual-LED flash.

Undoubtedly, iPad 2 have much more Apps than Xoom. The iPad has been out almost a full year, and there are roughly 65,000 apps designed for it. All these Apps can run perfectly on the new iPad 2.

While Motorola Xoom is the first tablet featuring Android Honeycomb, which is specified customized Android OS for tablet PC. And there are less than 100 tablet-specific apps, which is miserable compared with iPad 2 apps.

However, as time goes by, the Android tablet-specific apps will catch on rapidly, which has been proved on Android phones.

March 3rd, 2011    Posted in Apple News, Industry News

On Tuesday, Apple unveils the long-awaited iPad 2 on the media event. This iPad 2 is 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter. However, it still has the same amazing 10-hour battery life as the original iPad.

The same as the first iPad version, the new iPad 2 is equipped with a 9.7 inch IPS screen. And the resolution is still 1024×768.

To bring users with more exciting experience while surfing the Internet, watching movies, etc., this iPad 2 possesses a dual-core A5 CPU. Also it features a 9X faster graphics, which can make playing games on iPad smoother and more realistic.

One of the high points of the iPad 2 is that it has two cameras on iPad — one on the front and one on the back. Then users can have a FaceTime video calling with friends and record whatever you are seeing. The front-facing camera has a VGA (640 by 480 pixel) resolution, while the back one offers a higher 720p (720 by 1028 pixel) resolution. The front can focus automatically; the back has a fixed focus.

Also Apple designed an iPad Smart Cover for the iPad 2. It adopts smart magnetic technology, which can make iPad Smart Cover fall perfectly into place to protect your iPad screen without adding bulk to its thin, light design.

Once you open the Smart Cover, the iPad will wakes up instantly; after you close it, your iPad goes to sleep automatically. And it can transform to suit for whatever you do with your iPad 2. Apple provides users with 10 colors of the iPad Smart Cover.
