Sprint Will Introduce the iPhone 5 in Mid-October

According to the news of The Wall Street Journal, the Sprint will offer the iPhone 5 in mid-October together with Verizon and AT&T.

Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier’s lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone.

AT&T was the exclusive iPhone carrier in the United States until earlier this year, when Apple released a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 for Verizon. Sprint also operates a CDMA network.

Sprint would launch only a 3G version of iPhone 5, not 4G.

“From recent discussions with industry contacts, we believe Sprint and Apple are moving forward toward a launch of the iPhone 5 concurrent with the refresh that next occurs with AT&T and Verizon. We believe this phone would be 3G, but not 4G, capable,” RBC Capital Markets analyst Jonathan Atkin wrote in a note to clients.
