Apple May Need to Issue the iOS 5.0.2 for Battery Woes

November 17th, 2011    Posted in Apple News, Industry News

Last week, we have reported that Apple brought the iOS 5.0.1 update to fix iPhone 4S battery drain. However it seems that the iOS 5.0.1 upgrade may not fix your battery woes.
After the update, some iPhone 4S users reflect that that their iPhone battery life is worse than it was before. Some users say their battery life was fine until the upgrade. Others say it is far worse, and a few are seeing some improvement. Since one of the main features of the update was to fix battery life bugs, it’s hard to call this update anything but a failure.

Apple Brings the iOS 5.0.1 Update to Fix iPhone 4S Battery Drain

November 11th, 2011    Posted in Apple News, Industry News

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 5.0.1, the anticipated update designed to fix multiple unspecified bugs that drained the iPhone’s battery much faster than expected.

The update also patched five security vulnerabilities, including one revealed earlier this week by noted researcher Charlie Miller, who demonstrated that Apple’s App Store code signing could be sidestepped to download malware onto an iPhone without the owner’s knowledge.

This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:

– Fixes bugs affecting battery life

– Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad

– Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud

– Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation

iOS 5.0.1 was the first update that Apple delivered “over-the-air” — in other words, without requiring users to connect their devices to a Windows PC or Mac, and launching iTunes — a new feature that debuted with iOS 5 in October.

Apple did not spell out the specific battery-related patches, saying only “Fixes bugs affecting battery life” in a short list of the update’s contents.

Apple disclaims eight hours of talk time and six hours of internet use via 3G, with standby time of up to 200 hours.

One buyer claimed his iPhone 4S battery life drains at 15 percent per hour while locked and on standby. Another said battery drained 10 percent in 12 to 15 minutes after using iMessage.

To do an over-the-air update, select the “Settings” app on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, then touch “General” and finally “Software Update.”

That person told AppleInsider that his local AppleCare call center expects an eightfold increase in customer calls on that day, and that staff are being advised ahead of time for the increased traffic.

According to another report of BGR, Apple is planning to release the beta 8 of iOS 5 to developers on September 16th. After a week, a golden master version is believed to be released “on or around” September 23rd. And the golden master version is very likely to be loaded onto the already-assembled iPhone 5 hardware currently waiting for final software in China.

France Telecom CEO St├ęphane Richard has reportedly claimed that the iPhone 5 appears set to debut on October 15th. As the top executive of a major iPhone partner Richard would be more likely to have accurate information than most. So you should get ready for the coming of iPhone 5 and iOS 5.
