According to AllThingsD’s report, Apple will hold a media event on March 2 to unveil the second generation of iPad. And this media event will likely take place in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which is Apple’s preferred location for major product announcements.
The upcoming iPad – iPad 2 will be thinner and lighter than the current iPad. And it will feature a dual-core processor, a better screen, more RAM and storage, a front-facing camera, and possibly a rear-facing camera. It’ll run on both GSM and CDMA networks.
Since the release of iPad, many rivals appear in the market, especially the Android tablet. Motorola’s Xoom, running Android 3.0 will be available this week from Verizon Wireless. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 debuted last week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Meanwhile, RIM plans to launch versions of its 7-inch PlayBook tablet for LTE (Long-Term Evolution) and 3G HSPA+ networks by the end of the year. WiMax and Wi-Fi editions of Playbook should be available next month. And Hewlett-Packard will ship its WebOS-based TouchPad tablet this summer.
In another report, FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger noted that the launch of iPhone 5 in July is highly unlikely, and that it would probably occur only in September, citing delays with component suppliers.
