Are you prepared to buy the latest iPhone 4S and “jailbreak” it? “Jailbreak” a hacking process that allows users to delink their phones from the carrier they are locked to and potentially run unauthorized programs on them.
For years, many consumers have clamored for unlocked iPhones so they wouldn’t have to sign a long-term contract for wireless service and could use the carrier of their choice. They also could take their phones overseas and, after plugging in a SIM card from a local carrier, pay local rates for calls and data, rather than having to pay exorbitant roaming charges. Finally Apple will offer the unlocked version of the iPhone 4S to U.S. consumers.
It seems that Apple is already selling them at retail stores as simply “Off Contract” devices. “Off Contract” devices are sold at full retail price and don’t lock you into a contract with AT&T. The prices for these models are $649, $749 and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB iPhone 4S models.
